Nathaniel Lamson Attributed to William Jennys (1774-1859) Woodbury, Connecticut, circa 1795 Oil on canvas, 30 ¼ x 25 inches, with original painted frame Said to have been inscribed “1795” on the reverse of the original stretcher, now lost.
The subject of this portrait, Nathaniel Lamson, was born in Woodbury, Connecticut in 1776 and would have been in his late teens when this likeness was taken. It descended to his daughter Amanda (Lamson) Van Voorhees, born 1803, to her daughter Mary Ella (Van Voorhees) Russell, born 1838, to her daughter Miss Frances B. Russell of Stratford, Connecticut.
