The Mumper sisters, Mary Ann (born 1820), and Rebecca (born 1821), were nine and ten years old when they received this colorful pair of rewards of merit. Mary Ann and Rebecca Mumper were daughters of Michael Mumper (1791-1859) and Elizabeth Weaver (1798-1851) of York County, Pennsylvania. Michael Mumper, was a farmer and teamster in Franklin Township and owned 500 acres of improved land, and 100 acres of woodland, divided into four farms by the time of his death at the age of sixty nine.
